COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY: Job Code R-01
MISSION STATEMENT: To contribute computational biology expertise to the success of oncology and immunology research projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This person will be the primary point of contact for all informatics needs within the Oncology focus. Working hand-in-hand with experimental scientists, the successful candidate will identify opportunities to apply innovative computational approaches to facilitate target identification and validation, biomarker analysis, and mechanism-of-action studies. In collaboration with other members of Research Informatics the successful candidate will be responsible for providing projects teams with solutions for sequence analysis, transcript profiling, proteomics, and pathway analysis. Activity areas include data analysis, information management, and experimental design.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise and hands-on experience in computational biology/bioinformatics. Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset are critical for success. In-depth knowledge of algorithms, tools, and databases for sequence analysis and expression profiling are required. Experience in proteomics data analysis and/or pathway analysis would be considered a strong plus. Programming skills are highly desirable.

BIOCHEMIST: Job Code R-02
MISSION STATEMENT: To develop screening methods and to characterize protein-ligand interactions.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate should have skills in general protein biochemistry and a quantitative background with experience in LCMS, biosensor analysis, flow cytometry, fluorescence spectroscopy or other biophysical methodology. The candidate will participate in the development, execution and analysis of biochemical assays for drug screening and characterization. This candidate will have excellent problem solving skills, be highly motivated and excel independently as well as in a team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with protein purification and characterization, assay development and validation, spectroscopic and biophysical techniques (such as calorimetry, BiaCORE, fluorescence, NMR) are essential, as is the desire to work in a multidisciplinary environment. A PhD in biochemistry or related discipline and post doctoral or industry experience would be required as well as demonstrated record of laboratory accomplishments.


FORMULATION SCIENTIST: Job Code R-03
MISSION STATEMENT: Develop appropriate formulations for recombinant therapeutic proteins to support pre-clinical and clinical development. RESPONSIBILITIES: Identify and evaluate suitable conditions and excipients that preserve protein structure and activity under optimal commercially viable conditions; Conduct experiments to monitor accelerated and real-time stability of protein biopharmaceuticals; Characterize protein degradation products by various biochemical and physicochemical techniques; Evaluate new formulation / delivery system manufacturing processes; Participate in the planning and production of pre-clinical and clinical supplies; Interact with internal and external collaborators; Work in an environment where formulation and analytical scientists work closely together; Author, edit and/or review qualification/validation documentation, manufacturing process protocols and master batch records; Analyze, interpret and communicate experimental data to project teams in the form of oral presentations and written technical reports; Supervise and train associate staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in a related discipline with 2+ years of experience in a broad range of protein formulation and other drug development related activities; In depth knowledge and hands-on instrument experience in a broad range of protein analytical techniques including HPLC, spectroscopy, electrophoresis,; DSC, analytical ultracentrifugation and mass spectrometry; Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written); Excellent problem solving abilities and experience in cGMP environment required. In the desirable or plus category: Previous supervisory experience; Experience working with contract research/manufacturing organizations and Experience developing solid oral dosage formulations.


GENE EXPRESSION / DATA MINING: Job Code R-04
MISSION STATEMENT:
Leading a group of scientists responsible for the interpretation of gene expression patterns from genomics and proteomics studies conducted in Preclinical Safety and in Clinical Development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The group’s objective is the following:
- to derive the specific gene expression profile or signature of treatment efficacy (pharmacological effect) and/or toxicity (side effects) leading to the discovery of biomarkers
-to propose mechanisms and pathways affected by drug therapy which will be confirmed and validated by additional experiments
- to extract implicit and novel information from complex and large databases to characterize genes involved in the physiological and/or the pathological state following drug therapy.
This is done:
- by integrating and synthesizing the information from databases with bioinformatics tools as well as with statistical, partitioning and visualization techniques.
- to interact with program and development teams to design investigative approaches suitable for gene expression analysis and interpret gene expression results in an integrative manner.
- to write and review reports to be included in the project file and present results to development teams and management.
The role of this leader is:
- to guide scientifically the team members,
to contribute to the analysis strategy,
- to interact and network with external specialists,
- to set priorities for group activities,
- to integrate information from multiple functions (PK/PD, modeling, functional validation, and bioassay development)
- to mentor and train new hires.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Ph.D with an expertise in Molecular Biology.
· Knowledge of drug development processes.
· Former experience in interpreting gene expression data in the context of response to drug therapies is required.
· Experience working with complex databases, bioinformatics and statistical tools.
· Able to integrate, synthesize and communicate complex data from multiple sources.
· Strong leadership skills with experience in leading teams.


NATURAL PRODUCTS CHEMIST: Job Code R-05
MISSION STATEMENT: Organize scale-up purification of compounds of interest to high throughput natural products screening and lipopeptide programs. You will be responsible for scale-up purification of secondary metabolites produced by fermentation of actinomycetes. The QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate should be highly experienced in natural products isolation, characterization and dereplication and with bioassay-guided microbial products purification. A Ph.D. and 5 - 10 years experience in natural product isolation, characterization, de-replication and bioassay-guided microbial products purification. should have expertise in analytical HPLC for purification and preparative HPLC for scale-up. The Senior Chemist should have broad knowledge of other separation and chromatographic techniques applicable to natural products purification


SENIOR SCIENTIST TISSUE ENGINEERING:

MISSION STATEMENT:
Responsible for research and product development activities with the goal of solving the product development issues of process scale up, formulation and characterization of carbohydrate polymer products. Generates new concepts and technology in the areas of tissue protection, regeneration, and healing. Position requires a innovator and developer.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Leads projects from inception to clinical trials and or commercialization.
2. Motivates internal research staff by state-of-the-art knowledge on innovative technologies in research and development field.
3. Takes initiative to develop or modify plans/concepts and seeks innovative solutions, which can lead to new products.
4. Prepares professional reports of work, which are suitable for inclusion in regulatory filings, patent applications, or journal articles.
5. Coordinates selected project activities with academic or corporate collaborators.
6. In collaboration with the engineering department, scale up the process and resolve issues.
7. Maintains broad knowledge of cutting edge science and technologies in fields of interest that could be used to develop new products.
8. Executes robust internal research aimed at the creation of new proprietary product technology.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
1. Requires a Ph. D. in the area of biomaterials, chemistry, engineering or similar field.
2. At least 5 years experience in an industrial research environment with more than 2 years experience in an R&D organization, preferably in an industrial setting with close ties to academia.
3. Specific experience should be in general areas of tissue engineering, biomaterials or drug delivery, polymer characterization, process scale up, and product formulation.
4. Should have experience in material analysis, including HPLC, GPC, FTIR, UV-Vis, MALLS, and Rheometry.
